Description

This double-sided emergency blanket from BCB is compact, light and extremely effective for use in case of hypothermia or overheating. Double-sided means that the rescue blanket has a gold-coloured side and a silver-coloured side. In case of hypothermia, keep the gold-coloured side on the outside, in case of burns and/or overheating, keep the silver-coloured side on the outside. Thanks to its size of 2.02 by 1.55 metres, the emergency blanket is suitable for both children and adults.

How to use the emergency blanket in case of hypothermia

In case of hypothermia, the idea is to wrap the silver side around the victim (the gold side is then on the outside).

  1. Protect the victim from the wind.
  2. Keep the victim lying down as much as possible and remove wet clothing if possible.
  3. Wrap the victim immediately in the rescue blanket, with the silver side around him, to prevent further cooling. Caution! Always make sure that there is a blanket or dry clothing between the rescue blanket and the body.
  4. Give the victim something warm to drink (preferably no coffee, and certainly no alcohol) and warm the victim slowly.

How to use the emergency blanket in case of overheating

In case of overheating, you should hold the gold side of the emergency blanket above the victim (so do not wrap him or her). The silver side is at the top and reflects the sunlight to prevent further overheating.

  1. Move the victim to a cool environment.
  2. Give him (preferably a sports drink) to drink. Make sure the (sports) drink is not too cold.
  3. If there is drowsiness or a disturbance in consciousness: do not let the victim drink. Call 112.
  4. Cool the victim with the cold application of a compress.
  5. Do not wrap the victim in the emergency blanket, but hold the gold-colored side of the blanket above the victim. This will reflect the sunlight and prevent further overheating of the body.
